The US may just give up on hypersonics and try and move to non-kinetic laser or particle weapon kill systems on space-based platforms (whether they get there or not is another question) to try and counter. Though I’m not sure whether that would be enough. I hope China soon develops a reliable, relatively cheap system they can use to reliably shoot down and take out US hypersonic nuclear warheads in terminal or boost stage. Once they can do that, it really is game over for the US as not even the option of nuking China will exist.

China will develop practical lasers long before the US ever does. And even then, space based platforms are just floating targets
