The Koreans fought within the Chinese and Soviet Red Armies. The Korean Communists led guerrilla campaigns against the Japanese occupation in the 30s and 40s, and many of them fled to the USSR and joined the Red Army. Kim Il-Sung was well known by the Japanese as a pain in their ass.
