    There’s an argument that cancelling student debt doesn’t really help the population that much because only 40% of the country went to university/has school debt. IMO that money might be better served in providing subsidies for poor students to attend college or building more public universities and colleges to undercut private university costs.

      What money? Cancelling student debt is not a program that requires funding. Now if you replaced cancelling student debt with something like imperialist war, then I could understand your point.

        The government would be paying the private loan holders for the students debt. Of course, they could buy the loans and then claim it was odious debt but that would create political issues that congress is too afraid of IMO.

          That’s…still paying off the debt. I envision the word ‘Cancel’ to be more like a government official visiting loan holders with a group of armed men and telling them that if they pursue the debt they can talk to one of his armed friends instead. Basically telling loan holders to suck a dick.
