Okay, Dude, have it your way.
Thank you for sharing this, it didn’t disappoint. The die hard efforts we take to save a buck or exercise ingenuity mostly work out but when it comes to the wife and kids I usually throw in the towel.
I’ll give you a short story in return in that same vain: woke up to a raccoon on our deck, he was obviously in a pretty bad way. Pacing, frothing, sparse hair, lice. We figured it was rabid and I just wanted to try dropping a brick on it from above or smashing it, but I knew it would’ve been messy. Went out and bought an $80 trap, set it, but the dang thing just wouldn’t go in. Well she wanted her deck space back so ultimately we called someone to remove it, $200. Turns out it had distemper. Now I would’ve waited until it died and then bagged it up - would’ve been cheaper but I guess at least we ended its suffering.
Say the line Bart!

Also applies: no such thing as a free lunch.
Anyone know the artist? Saw another one by them a couple days ago about brute force protection.
Perl itself or the O’Reilly book?
Just kidding, I know you meant Perl.
Wild predators are one thing but what about bats with rabies? You wouldn’t even know you got bit until it’s too late.
Slightly off topic - someone mentioned they don’t use Tutanota for social interactions because the domain is weird and I agree whole heartedly. Everytime I’m on the phone with a support dept. or tell my friends and I spell it out I feel so silly. Not to mention my wife has gotten it wrong several times.
Love the solution, their support is responsive as well, but yeah…
I may seem a bit confused but I got you pegged.
Scrambled eggs all over my face. What is a boy to do.
I think he’s just suggesting that the plugin filters it down to what an algorithm considers legitimate. These plugins usually only filter when you click the item so it wouldn’t necessarily move the result down, just reduce potential purchases (which would eventually drop the result.
E: I’m probably stating the obvious above but the damage to bottom line might be after repeat findings until a user ultimately decides Amazon is mostly untrustworthy.
I did state that his argument was not without its flaws. It still serves its purpose as a thought experiment about how a society should handle radically dissenting opinions.
I won’t pretend to know the answer in practice and censorship makes me uneasy but my debate is against free speech absolutionists.
The paradox of tolerance suggests we draw a line and decide some things are unacceptable to tolerate or the tolerant will be overwhelmed by the intolerant. I’m sure Poppers arguments are not without flaws but absolute free speech is a pipe dream.
There are limits to free speech in US laws already, some common examples are slander, libel, and threats. There’s also “imminent lawless action” where words inciting violence can be restricted.
Maybe I’m drawing a false correlation between the two ideas but in general I don’t think it’s so black and white as you might suggest.
The fool that he is McCarthy went on Face the Nation and blamed the very Dems that were working with him. The interviewer laughed at him. I’m sure that helped.
I think we can all agree aesthetics are subjective. The down votes are likely for saying anything positive about something related to Musk (or just folks who disagree). Which, to your point, would be an interesting experiment: put one in front of people who don’t know who made it and see what they think.
