  • I see what you’re saying but they are specifically worried about anal sex. You’re welcome to switch up partners as much as you want as long as anal sex isn’t involved, which is much more likely and much easier for the heterosexual community.

Same goes with prep. I’m sure that there are circumstances that would have individuals taking it that are not related to their sexual orientation.

I’m just pointing out that despite the major improvement it still excludes gay men quite thoroughly from donating blood.

Unfortunately it applies to gay men only. Our straight counterparts can switch up partners as much as they want.

Well, it’d apply to bisexual men who’ve had male partners as well.

I should also point out it doesn’t have to be new partners. Just if you’ve had more than one partner you can’t donate even if it’s an exclusive polygamous relationship.

  • Sort of. Still can’t donate if you’re taking prep (hiv preventative) or if you’ve had sex with multiple people.

Need to be off prep for 3 months and not have sex with new or multiple partners.

The no prep part is a tough ask. Especially with how healthcare is

Much better than it was but it still excludes a huge portion of the community

  • Part of the reason is what the consequences are.

Being perceived as gay in public? You get beat. Want to marry your partner? Too bad. Want to be able to advocate for your partner when they’re in the hospital? You’re now trespassing cause your not family. Happen to be watching nieces/nephews? Congrats , you’re now a pedo. The list of atrocities goes on.

This has gotten better over the years due to the protests and pride events

Chronic illnesses are generally met with sympathy. I’ve yet to hear of anyone being beat for their illness except for certain cases of tuberculosis and aids.

Not to say this group should be ignored. It just gets lost relative to everything else. Everyone deserves healthcare and it ends up being drowned out by that I think.

  • My previous comment was just pointing out how you fell into the same pattern that the original comments pointed out about how no one disagrees with her.

Your point is less of a reflection on oac and more of a reflection on our political theater. It’s pretty disingenuous to criticize her so for how other politicians vote instead of the content of her bills or actions.

You pointed out how Biden gets things passed. They are not always good things and often are quite gutted from what they were advertised as. See the railroad strikers deal they were forced to accept. They were striking for safety and compensation reasons and had their hand forced by Biden. They got a crap deal that lead to even crappier results. I would not call that a success even if Biden got it to work.
