I don’t know how anyone could write this paper and put their name on it and not be embarrassed. Projecting out human extinction based only on the most recent 5 years of data alone is absolutely ridiculous.

Sounds reasonable tbh, maybe less depending on how hard surviving after collapse is

Given the decline in fertility between 2019 and 2024 and employing a probabilistic forecasting method in conjunction with 66% confidence intervals, we find: by 2139 the world population will be between 1.55 billion and 1.81 billion; by 2239, it will be between 4.95 million and 5.84 million and by 2339 there will be no humans.

Yea clearly a terrible study, not going to watch the vid. For actual near term human extinction stuff I’ve seen run away estimates as much as like 8c+ increase (over the long term, think hundreds or thousands of years). Don’t have anything that doomer on hand though. Either way we are almost certainly getting hot house earth, just depends how hot it gets and how long it takes to get going.

When you definitely understand statistics and the progression of time, lmao.

I think if humans are still around in 300 years we will have long since solved any problems we could possibly predict today. The hard part is surviving the next 100 or so years.

Kinda feel that way about the next 100. It’s inestimable, maybe we stalled out, maybe it’ll be like the past 100 years. Imagine living the change from 1925 to 2025

To be fair there are lots of issues from about 200 years ago or more that we still have now, but obviously the study is silly.

I’m not sure I believe this. Humans are an invasive and resilient species. Short of the earth literally exploding/getting consumed by the sun/the heat death of the universe I don’t think we’ll ever go extinct.

Breadtube if it didn’t suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It’s open submission unless there’s something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it’s currently in.
