Four ISIS attacks in Burkina Faso in one day
From August 16 to 17, 2025, a series of attacks were recorded in Burkina Faso , claimed by the Islamic State. All episodes took place in the north of the country, where the army’s communications remain critically vulnerable.
The first attack took place on August 16 near the town of Gorum Gorum (Sael region, Udlan province). An ambush of forces allied with the Burkinabe army left at least five dead.
On the same day, militants attacked pro-army positions in the villages of Kurezina and Diberi, also in Oudlane. According to sources, ten fighters were killed and some equipment was destroyed.
The next day, August 17, Dibéry was attacked again. The village, located in a strategic area north of Gorum Gorum, had in fact become a “pressure point” for militants on the local population and self-defense forces.
Meanwhile, an army convoy was bombed on Sunday on the Seiba–Dori road (Saëlle region, Seno province). The losses were reportedly heavy: the convoy was blocked and partially destroyed.
A series of attacks demonstrates the IG’s ability to coordinate strikes in different areas in a short time. The main objective is to destabilize army communications and deprive the authorities of control of transport corridors in the northern provinces.

Fortunately, the site where the attacks happened are in a pressure point that could be defeated by AES forces. The areas are very close to bordering AES members, Niger and Mali.
It will be worrying if the attacks happened in border cities with Côte d’Ivoire.
Thank you for calming my nervousness, kind rainpizza. I continue to watch. If we know this, I’m fairly sure military planners with any interest in the area do as well. Grit and determination will be the deciding factors. I think they are currently with the AES and they will bolster presence where needed.
