It is difficult for me to imagine what “personal liberty” is enjoyed by an unemployed hungry person. True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and opression of one person by another; where there is no unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Only in such a society personal and any other freedom can exist for real and not on paper.
I think this is where Jacobin might’ve gotten the idea that socialists seem to be super-liberals of some sort.
It’s not just Jacobin; even the CPUSA has gone downhill.
To be fair, I think Jacobin has always been bad though. A few good articles, but otherwise, pretty bad.
What’s wrong with CPUSA?
As any other leftist organization, it’s alright, but it’s been calling on its supporters to back Biden over Trump over fears of fascism. I don’t think it’s a bad organization, but as a communist one, it could be better, imho.
And they believe a Biden administration will halt fascism how exactly? Why don’t they stop worrying about the particulars of installing an enemy they’ll have zero control over anyway and start organizing harder than ever?
I agree.
They backed Hillary in '16 as well. They have a history of revisionism, iirc.
They didn’t back Hillary Clinton in 2016, but they are backing Biden now.
