Reddit didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment. According to Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt, “We’ll no longer comment on hearsay, unsubstantiated claims, or baseless accusations from The Verge. We’ll be in touch as corrections are needed.” In the absence of corrections, then, you can assume Reddit believes none are necessary.

“Attacking our users didn’t work, so let’s attack the journalists reporting on us attacking our users!”

What sane person would possibly invest in a company like this?

Ignoring how inept they’ve been throughout this whole ordeal, they don’t even have control over their own site! It’s pathetic

Based on how many people invested in GameStop, AMC, and Bed, Bath, And Beyond, there is clearly a large number of dumbass retail investors. Too bad that’s unlikely to be enough to make a good IPO.

The changes include no longer requiring users to do basic research and lowering the standard for what the subreddit counts as spam.

I bet this is to fight against mass edit tools. I actually used one to edit all the comments I ever wrote. Got flagged seconds after by the subreddit of Fear The Walking Dead, permabanning me for spam.

Personally I don’t care. At least now they don’t have my data anymore.

Attacking our mods 🎵 attacking our users 🎵 attacking the journalists who report the matter 🎵

History tells us that dictators attack journalists, so Reddit after all?

A large part of the value of Reddit is in the user base’s hands. This idea that social media sites monetize user-created content without giving back to the user base has been around for a while but with Reddit it’s more obvious because it is a topic-specific discussion site.
