Agreed, but that is exactly how NOSTR identity works, and the reason I think NOSTR is such a great protocol.

You realize you’re describing Nostr right?
This has a lot more to do with consumption than with production. Most of these islands are small, and it’s unrealistic for them to have large populations or a heavy tourist industry without desalination plants. Energy needs to become cheap, and honestly, wind farms and solar can help with this.
How is nostr promoting crypto?
Nostr is ultimately the way forward and he knows it. Nobody controlling your identity other than yourself.
I just came in here, looking for these exact questions and was about to post them when I saw this thread
Marking posts as read also sync to the server? I know this was an issue in the past because it couldn’t be done as a batch? I know I posted some thing about this topic along time ago, and that was the answer.
I am also looking forward to doing community specific searches.
It’s not worth getting this upset about this stuff. That’s my 2 cents.
It is confusing. If you have two apps on your phone that do the same thing, how is the new user supposed to know what to do? I’m thinking of Samsung and how they insist on shipping their own branded stuff that, for the most part, brings nothing new to the table.
When I see people criticize something they have clearly not used I get motivated to try it.
I try to stick with doing all my subscriptions with apple, google or PayPal. Always keep it where it’s easy to kill.
We need to allow for the possibility that it is far more weird than that which honestly is a very human centric view.
Most of these laws end up moving more money in taxes but not more money for anybody other than government burócrata.
I wish them much success but sounds like a hack.
Nostr is the future. Maybe Signal should just adopt that protocol.
I bet they do some thing like make it optional on the iPhone and the user needs to turn that setting on to get RCS. Obviously most users don’t care and will never look.
Apple supports SMS. That’s the universal standard. It’s old and archaic but that’s not apples fault. Getting the carriers to agree on anything and standardize is difficult at best. RCS? Why not but that still should not force Apple to abandon iMessage.
How many elections have they won since 2006?
Sounds like a solution looking for a problem.
I pay for YouTube premium, but it’s a lot of money given they have $0 production cost.
I suspect retrofitting a whole new identity system to Fediverse will never happen because server admins, or instance admins, will come up with all kinds of reasons why they don’t like the idea of not knowing who their users are. Some of them would probably allow it, but I bet a whole bunch of them wouldn’t, and we’d get into this fragmentation where some servers won’t allow posts from those types of identity, etc. It seems to me much easier to take Nostr and just give it the functionality you get inside the Fediverse.
