The app hasn’t been updated in six months according to F-Droid when I used the official Bromite repo. I mean no disrespect to the Dev I’m just concerned about security vulnerabilities in the browser. Bromite was considered one of the best in the privacy space and I’d hate to see it go. If anybody could shed some light on this that would be great.
Github shows the same: Last commit 5 months ago. Funnily enough, the main dev’s last comment was “Nobody quit anything” right after never showing up again.
Uazo, a collaborator of the project, seems to try to bring the project back alive. Even the /e/ Foundation is looking to support his work in order to keep bromite going.
For the future: if possible, consider the bus factor when choosing software:
What happens if <Developer> gets hit by a bus?
I just read through that github thread, seems like uazo isn’t super open to discussion with e.foundation

There is someone who has been keeping a fork of it alive: https://github.com/uazo/bromite-buildtools
I had the same issue recently, since sometimes you need a chromium-based browser. After some research, I decided to opt for Mulch. It is available on F-Droid through DivestOS repo just as Mull (my main browser).
Fennec is a good alternative.
I use iceraven. It’s FOSS and supports extensions, so I use ublock origin, noscript, privacy badger and I don’t care about cookies. Basically the best browser you can get.
I’ve been personally using Mull, which is Firefox-based. Big advantage over Bromite is that it supports add-ons as well!
Discussion about that is here: https://github.com/bromite/bromite/issues/2610
