    Great find, Yogthos.

China has rebuffed calls to restart high-level talks with the United States, raising the risk of confrontation in contested areas like the Taiwan Strait.

The nerve! The world seen through the lens of Anglo-European entitlement.

Did the writer not stop to think what the US has to do with Taiwan? It’s basically an admission that the US is threatening another proxy war, this time in the Taiwan Straight. Big ‘do as you’re told or you’ll regret it’ energy.

… evidence that Mr. Xi has fully committed to the view that engagement between China and the United States is fruitless, at least for now. And it has lent urgency to concerns that the two powers are on a collision course …

Whose ‘concerns’? China ignores the buzzing fly and the buzzing fly cries that Xi is being mean. ‘hold me back, hold me back’.

The Biden administration says it wants to establish “guardrails” to prevent an incident from flaring over a misunderstanding in heavily contested areas such as the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait …

Contested between whom? Why does the Biden administration think that the US has a right to contest areas far away from the US?

“Xi clearly believes that engagement for engagement’s sake is a fool’s errand. The time for talk has passed. Instead, it’s time for Beijing to batten down the hatches,” said Craig Singleton, a senior China fellow at the nonpartisan Foundation for Defense of Democracies. “Simply put, there is no going back to the way things were, so Xi must now prepare China for a more fraught future.”

Threats and more threats, even from the oxymoronic

nonpartisan Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Mr. Wu said. “China thinks the U.S. has neither the sincerity nor the ability to improve relations.”

The rest of the article suggests that ‘China’ is probably right.

Yeah, the framing there is absolutely incredible. I also love this bit:

“China wants to engage the U.S. from a position of strength, and China is clearly not in that position now,” Mr. Pei said. “If anything, America’s success in rallying allies and waging the tech war against China proves that it is still far more powerful than China and has more tools at its disposal.”

Absolutely delusional to think that it’s US that’s in position of strength right now.

@yogthos cant blame them. Other countries will only take so much abuse from the US before they will say “fuck off”
