I don’t think Pompeo is stupid. He is being partially truthful, in that if he can lie and trick enough neoliberals into believing him, they can refuse to accept Ukraine’s surrender to Russia.
That’s not the part I’m referring to. It’s him thinking that Russia will ever trust the west again that makes him an idiot. After the war ends, there’s nothing the west can do now to convince Russia that it would be a reliable partner going forward. So, this fantasy about recruiting Russia against China is the height of idiocy.
