I’m still a relatively new gun owner. I joined the SRA and bought a SW M&P 15-22 since it was recommended as fun to shoot, and the best for getting familiar with ARs.

So, now that I’ve pumped a few hundred rounds through it, I’m ready for an upgrade. I have very little time as an “essential” (read: exploited) worker and money is a bit tight. I like the M&P 15, as it is nearly identical to my .22, and is relatively cheap, but I see prices for manufactured weapons range from over 3k down to 600.

So, with my time very valuable, and my budget in the sub 1k range, would it be better just to buy one outright, or piece one together?

Thanks, and happy to be here.

Thanks! I’ll definitely do some more research. Seems like everyone I’ve talked to says building is much more fun.

You can pick up an m&p sport 2 for under 600 right now if you’re really savvy or under 700 fairly easily, and add/replace parts to it as you find the money to do so and as you find deals on this or that part, that way you have a functional 556 off the bat and can get used to shooting it and better decide where to go with your build, up to you. Best of luck comrade
