Americans genuinely think the rest of the world respects our four year election cycles. “Oh that was Trump’s presidency, not Biden’s” or “Yeah but like Iraq was 20 years ago and we left in 2013 (nevermind we still have troops doing CIA shit over there).” The worst is when they think “Yeah that was Alphabet Agency under such and such.”

We are so exceptionalism-brained we think these things make a difference to other countries. None of this matters to other countries because: 1) no amends were made for the behavior; 2) they don’t give a shit about how our system functions; 3) we are still doing the behavior; 4) people who were harmed are still alive; 5) 100 years isn’t actually that long, especially for countries with buildings older than when vikings landed in Canada.
