imagine being a liberal and having to accept that your personal voldemort cares more about Palestine than any leader you can choose from like even just being able to say that is more than so many western leaders

      More like sicko-wistful

Long standing support my ass, Lavrov stated that the Israeli occupation of Gaza was similar to Russias stated goal of denazification. Russia is essentially on the same page as most of the pro two state solution states, which is essentially to keep talking about it while Israel keeps occupying more and more Palestinian land.

Russia is arming Iran and is part of the axis of resistance effectively. What Lavrov said was stupid but it’s not the official position of the Russian state, which has always been to recognize Palestine - which is much better than literally every single Western nation

            https://www.stimson.org/2024/iran-and-russia-enter-a-new-level-of-military-cooperation/

Indeed, other aspects of widening Iran-Russia military cooperation are noteworthy. Iran has supplied Russia with munitions, artillery shells, and drones (Shahed-131/136 series and the more advanced Mohajer-6), which involves establishing an entire factory for producing Iranian-style drones on Russian soil. In November 2023 Tehran announced that it would be getting Russian Su-35 fighter jets as well as Mi-28 attack helicopters. The deal was reported as finalized but apparently has not yet occurred. Iranian ballistic missile shipments to Russia, if confirmed, suggest that the fighter jets, helicopters, and perhaps even the S-400 missile defense system will be sent to Tehran soon. In February 2024, Russia also sent an Iranian satellite into orbit marking burgeoning ties in the space industry.

There are military allies and provide each other military assistance. This is not controversial. Those satellites and funds are not going to waste, they are going right into the struggle.

Saying Russia is arming Iran makes it seem like iranian industry is underdeveloped or needs Russian help. it does not. The Iranians have made a lot of effort in order to build their own heavy industry from scratch, the only country that has helped meaningfully in arming Iran is Korea. In many areas, like medium range ballistic missiles the Iranians are ahead, at least according to simplicius.

In other areas, like turbines for electric generation, it has been Iranian companies that have been supplying Russia after they were sanctioned. Even in your own link it’s Iran doing the selling to Russia.

They cooperate, and that’s great. But that’s different than Russia arming Iran. As the link says none of the hardware going from Russia to Iran has been delivered, even things that were paid decades ago. Except for the satellite launch.

You’re reading into it too much, that was not my assertion. My assertion was that Russia and Iran have joint military cooperation on the level of a de facto Military Alliance now. They both are assisting each other, covering weak spots. My point is that Russia is materially allied with Palestinian struggle because they killed Zionist and US agents in Syria and are military allies with the axis of resistance.

Saying that Russia is just saying this to “score points and sow division” is stupid. They’re doing it because it’s in their interests to push NATO out of Eurasia, and that’s increasingly meaning Israel as well

I’m unsure of the extent of cooperation between both sides, it’s certainly less than between Iran and Korea or Iran and Venezuela.

There is also a significant portion of the Russian ruling class with deep economic ties to the entity and the west. So it’s in their personal and class interests to reproach the west. This is also true in Iran to a lesser extent.

However I do agree that as the sanctions against Russia continue, it’s economic interests will align more and more with the resistance, we have seen the reproach meant with Korea, and Iranian arms sales are a good start.

That being said, this meeting was with the comprador regime in the west bank and the statement seems vacuous.

      sow division

The evil Ruski plot to get people to disagree about whether slaughtering children and raping hostages is bad.

There is no division to be sown here. If someone is on the evil side of this issue, that’s entirely their own personal failing. And all major political parties of all major Western countries agree on being pro-genocide. So who do you think he’s trying to sow division between?

      to score points

With who? The democratically elected Western governments have come out entirely on Israel’s side.

And I wouldn’t make the ‘principled’ position argument if I were you; Western governments are literally on the side of a country that’s just bombed a school (the fifth by now I think); although sadly given our country and NATO bomb infrastructure as a matter of course, perhaps Western governments do support the mass murder of global South civilians out of principle (they certainly defended it for the last 10 months).

And I’m going to be completely honest with you: I don’t care what their principles are; if someone decides to seek profit and power by standing with the oppressed, more power to them; the planet certainly has leagues more of the people who’d stand with oppressors in the interest of profit, power and standing in firm alliance with fellow Western/white powers even when they’re engaged in horrific crimes.

Sow division among who? Westoid Liberals who claim to support Palestine but are just chauvinist cowards?

Ukraine is ran by Nazis and so is Israel. Being against both is completely consistent

I actually agree with you that Putin doesnt actually care about Palestine, but this isnt about sowing division, its geopolitical chess. And Russia’s geopolitical position makes him capable of taking the right position.
