We’re better off with Matrix anyway.
Not really. Signal is a walled garden but Matrix has a lot of a privacy issues.
Why not the internet standard XMPP? We need more standardization in instant messaging not more venture capital funded startups cooking up their own protocols.
is XMPP end2end encrypted?
Yes. The most popular encryption method is probably OMEMO nowadays (the Signal encryption protocol for XMPP).
I’ll stick with Matrix.
Element and the Matrix team might move out of the UK if the legislation is passed
@zakiuem @ParanoidFactoid wow. I figured that’d be the case, but it just goes to show how catastrophic this legislation is
☹️
@ray why does the pathetic UK gvmt wants to listen my private conversations with my family?
@mariubrlu @ray "to stop terror " or “save kids” take your pick
@mariubrlu @ray not of both
UK is a sinking ship anyway
Better distributed mechanisms, such as Jami and Briar. I have hope on wider adoption of Jami…
No one ever talks about delta chat but it makes email in a ui like instant messaging. Its encrypted and if wanted you could host your own email server. There is no way anyone is going to shut down email and the emails with delta chat are encrypted client side and delta chat can never be shutdown or messages can’t ever be read.
