Indeed, transition from USSR back to capitalism really highlights the difference a system makes.

If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that something like 300k women with doctorates ended up in prostitution to be able to sustain themselves.

This is just one reason why I will not shed a single tear when Noam “The fall of the Soviet Union was the greatest victory of socialism” Chomsky finally croaks.

There was a post on r/Europe of a map that showed the amount of female scientists in modern Europe (read: post Soviet). Pretty much all the former eastern bloc and other former communist states had significantly high numbers of female scientists, even after the countries’ transition to capitalism, while the countries that were always pro-west and capitalist had very lower numbers.

All the comments were cope. They were saying how “how is having more female scientists an accomplishment?” or “the west values merit and skills more instead of forcing diversity.” or “women don’t like technical jobs. The commies forced them to… because…!”

*there turned out to be multiple posts throughout several years. You can look at them if you search “reddit.com/r/europe map of female scientists”

Whenever I read biographies on normal soviet people, i’m always surprised when i see shit like “Ivan McLenin Jr.’s mother was a radiochemist who also taught classical piano. His father was a soldier in the Red Army and became a mechanic after the war.”

And while western biographies are varied, more often than not when it’s from around the same time period I see “Joe Davis’ mother was a doctor but resigned early and became a stay at home mom after having children”

lol yeah they always try to frame it as if socialists force women to do interesting things, because the natural state for women is to want to effectively be house slaves for men apparently

These are both from the same year (I forget when):

If you click the little rainbow coloured fediverse icon it will take you through to the original thread where you can see them. But I’ll put them here too though.
