I think I might have an issue, this cant be normal right?

Every time a car passes by my window I want to scream because the noise disrupts my concentration. It’s seriously tiring me out, they’re not even loud or something like that.

It’s the same with other noises but cars in particular (cause they pass by every 20 minutes). Its not something that would normally bother me this much :/

My most reactionary opinion is that there should be rooftop snipers for cars that exceed a certain volume threshold

Double pane windows helped cut down on a lot of noise for me. But thats an investment. You might also be a highly sensitive person.

Maybe a white noise machine or a device that plays white noise might help. It won’t for those ego maniacs who need to fuck up their exhaust and let everyone in a 5 mile radius know they’ve achieved 15mph. No amount of reasonable guards can save that.

When I had loud music neighbors I had to put on 60hz binuraural youtube

as a form of active noise cancellation or I would get headaches so badly I couldn’t think.

Either you have some type of neurodivergency going on for it to piss you off that much or you have righteous fury

How do you feel about parking minimums?

Living next to a straight major road is annoying. I’ve lived in a couple places like this near the richer neighborhoods. Rich assholes keep racing their sports cars very late into the night.

I brought it up with neighbors but they just turn into Karens and call the police, who do jack shit. I’ve considered throwing some spikes on the road lol but I don’t wanna screw up the tires of everyone who passes by

I absolutely feel you. Every single one needs to have a loud exhaust and the tire-noise drives one insane. One thing that helps me somewhat is white noise or other background sounds (like rain and wind, I use blanket for this). I haven’t tried noise-canceling headphones, but they might help in your case, though I can imagine that they will get sweaty in summer. And I don’t want to carry a device everywhere I go just to drown out the unnecessary noise others make.

Though my usual methods only help up to a point. Motorcycle season has started here, and the road 700 m away from my flat is used by these idiots. Every fucking minute I get interrupted by backfiring modified motorcycles even when I close my windows. Yesterday I tried to go reading by some trees behind the house (that are more than 1 km away from said road) and my ears started to hurt from the noise. I didn’t get any reading done either… And don’t get me started on lawn tools…

Sorry for the rant, just nice to know there are others who feel the same way.

I can hear the cars outside my home and it drives me nuts too. A break is what helps me. I’ve tried everything below.

If you can take time away from home on vacation or camping, that may be best. Alternatively, something that can help cover the noise, such as a fan or adding noise absorbent materials to the room it’s the biggest problem in may help. Drapes, home-made sound panels, something along these lines.

they are expensive, but im a much happier person with really good noise-cancelling headphones in my life. also loops are cheap and good for going out.

I’ve been like this recently, but they’re also doing construction right next to me and at like 9am every day they start up some ear-splitting drill to do god knows what. I think it’s making me hyper-sensitive to noise, because now noises that used to be no problem are really annoying me, like cars.

me too friend, me too. fighting car supremacy might honestly be my top political priority.

    Fuck cars.

On a practical note, look into bass traps. I’m going to build a few for my bedroom corners and hopefully turn itinto less of a resonance box.

Ugh, yes it’s so frustrating! Cheapest way I’ve been able to reduce the noise from traffic and neighbors was getting some “noise canceling curtains” which don’t really cancel the noise out but they dampen them enough so that my white noise app/video can drown out the annoying bits. They’re basically 3 different, heavy fabrics sewn together. Good headphones have worked for me too, hope you can find some relief!

I had to move out to the middle of absolute nowhere in order to get my head clear. My road is a two track, and I still hate when people zip by. On 4/20, I saw a cop riding a side by side going up and down the road. That really made me lose it
