lol yeah the USSR definitely ignored the military infrastructure and just bombed all the “Estonian” cultural landmarks because they’re cartoon villains and just hate poor innocent Estonia

In your opinion, if anyone around the world wants to take their revenge on the assassination of Soleimani and intends to do it proportionately in the way they suggest — that we take one of theirs now that they’ve got one of ours — who should we consider to take out in the context of America?

Think about it. Are we supposed to take out Spider-Man and SpongeBob? They don’t have any heroes. We have a country in front of us with a large population and a large landmass, but it doesn’t have any heroes. All of their heroes are cartoon characters — they’re all fictional.

If it is not completely made up bullshit the thing about bombing cultural landmarks might have a good explanation. Back in the WWII era aerial navigation and bomb targeting was a lot cruder than today and when bombing a city navigators would use landmarks, like church towers, to orientate themselves and target bombs. Everyone was doing it this way because that was the only way to do it back then.

Atleast the replies and quotes are 90% good. Still the occasional anti-Russia shill in there. but damn. No matter how anti-communist Putin is, and under him Russia has become ussr-cry , at least they still hate Nazis. Can’t say the same for any Western country (other than Ireland I guess).

Ireland doesn’t seem to mind Ukrainian Nazis. A broken clock is right twice a day. Doesn’t mean it isn’t broken.

At least the MEPs they send to Brussels have from the start identified the Russo-Ukraine War publicly as a war ultimately stoked by Western destabilization, from its origins in 2014, which is cynically supported by the US because of the business investment opportunities in post-war devastated places.

The most odious part of this is there’s no reason they have to invoke this. They could just play the “Russia occupied us before they want to do so again” card. They’re going out of their way to make a “Russia bad because they attacked Nazis” argument.

Estonia just keeps striking me as Finland, but without the sweet music and literature. Seriously the Kalevala is hardcore. I really hope it’s not super popular with fascists. Granted, I’m American. Any culture we have we quickly try and stamp out. I’m genuinely shocked my family held onto some of our Polish traditions.

it’s a pretty cool book, bought the original ye olde finnish version and then had to buy one with modern finnish because, motherfucker some words just became completely opposite during the decades

my favourite bit is the one where the smith Ilmarinen forges a wife from gold because he lost his wife in the previous story. he isnt very happy because she is very cold and apparentely in more than the physical way. So he tries to pawn her off to Väinämöinen (who is a massive fucking dickhead) and he turns that into a lesson:

Then the hero of the waters
        Called together all his people,
Spake these words of ancient wisdom:
        "Every child of Northland, listen,
        Whether poor, or fortune-favored:
        Never bow before an image
Born of molten gold and silver:
        Never while the sunlight brightens,
        Never while the moonlight glimmers,
Choose a maiden of the metals,
Choose a bride from gold created
Cold the lips of golden maiden,
Silver breathes the breath of sorrow."

i do love to read stuff written way back when and they try to warn us off from worshipping wealth sans-shrug sorry, folks we done fucked up
