On one hand, people should get vaccinated. On the other hand, I think they’ve got a point- for all the blatant abuses people have brought up in this thread, and more.

The western COVID vaccines (as someone who has been vaccinated for it) were, and are, still pretty shady in my eyes- or at least, the way the whole issue has been dealt with in the west, is. I think there’s considerable reason to believe that the vaccines were rushed out (understandable, but still), I won’t disagree with anyone claiming that the PREP act and other measures of ensuring those hit with side effects have no measure of recourse is further messed up, and I definitely believe that, for all the actual necessity which genuinely, desperately exists- a large part of the rollout and the media narrative around it in the west, is also being used as yet another means of massively transferring wealth from the public sector, to private corporations. Capitalism never lets a crisis go to waste, after all.

For people not living in imperial cores (as well as certain communities within them), it gets worse when one considers the long and often ongoing history of western pharma using their nations as testing grounds with less if any liability, etc… and then there’s also the fact that much of the vaccines “donated” by the west (after first being hoarded) are generally right near the point of expiry. Not really a recipe for ideal results, or for any public trust…

Personally I think that it’s better for more people to be vaccinated than not all the same, but I can’t really blame those who choose not to with all this context, though I’m not likely to want to mingle excessively around them.

For COVID vaccines specifically, there is no protection against reinfection. Every single thing the vaccine was supposed to do got walked back step by step and nobody on the left calls this out.

      • It was supposed to end the pandemic
      • It was supposed to prevent people from even getting COVID in the first place
      • It was supposed to prevent people from spreading COVID (even if they did get it)
      • It was supposed to prevent long-COVID

All of these things have been proven, one after the other during the course of 2021-2022, to be false. And no, herd immunity should not matter, people who are vaccinated should be impervious to the virus–they aren’t, not even remotely close.

The COVID vaccine at BEST, and that’s if you believe everything they say and give them the benefit of the doubt, gives people a lower chance of death upon first reinfection. But honestly, there are SO many stories of people dropping dead within a week of their first vaccine, many times even on the same day, that I personally do not even believe this much. And it’s been medically confirmed that vaccines can cause long-COVID, and the effect of vaccines on preventing long-COVID is slight, and this is even lower for people who were infected with COVID once before they got vaccinated.

To me it’s like playing Russian roulette but your potential reward is just a tiny band-aid.
