Unironically goes hard
This is what Noname is talking about when she says she doesn’t want white fans at her shows. They just take anything in black culture and make a total farce of it, which diminishes its power as a rebellious force.
That’s what capitalism does with all music and culture.

Are you sure that wasn’t just a joke? She literally went did a concert for NPR three weeks ago. The overwhelming majority of NPR listeners are white.
she was not “joking” she literally stopped touring in part because of too many racist white fans at her shows, she almost quit music entirely. she never said she doesn’t want white people at her show she said she doesn’t want to make art for majority white liberal audience who refuse to stop being racist. are you a white person who does self crit and doesnt say the n word when singing along? you are welcome at her show, also she doesnt want to preform for mostly white crowds. thats what she said and she has clarified her original statement many times.
heres a long interview where she talks about it.
Didn’t know that, thanks for the detailed response.
youre welcome
edit: we need more flattering noname emotes
No, she’s done other interviews and made comments about it. She’s clearly frustrated by her overwhelming popularity with white people when she’s trying to make music for her community, but also trying to balance the evils of living in a capitalist system.

Honestly, I was a bit worried when I read the title that this would be like some of the other recent “political” ERB episodes and feel like a vessel to spread a message (however true or sincere), but man was I glad to be wrong! It felt like both sides meaningfully traded blows and made good points about each other, and that’s super impressive!
