A small amount of natural maple syrup, emphasis on small, can replace the sugar addition and imo tastes better. I add some smoky peppers like chipotle and it really pairs well with the maple.
It’s a pain in the ass if you don’t make it often or in a large batch though because now you have a thing of syrup to find uses for.
