I like how they said China planned deployment of space station since at least 90’s but at the same time only reacted to US banning them from ISS (and no comment on how USA could unilaterally ban anyone from international space station).
Also no elaboration on how he mentioned ISS is basically Mir 2.0, it’s only possible to exist because it’s full of Soviet tech… while also shitting up on Soviet aesthetics while polishing the Skylab.
US spurring China to do their own space stuff was definitely a great development. Can’t wait till Russia starts working with China on space and abandons ISS. Then US will be the one frozen out of space.
Wondering also what ESA is going to do once ISS is out of order. They were planning to send astronauts to Tiangong but changed their minds earlier this year.
ESA is kinda screwed now it seems, pulling out from cooperation with China was a really brain dead move on their part.
Disagree that Tiangong is fundamentally different, it’s still a bunch of linked modules. It is much more advanced technologically though! And China has the actual manufacturing capability to maintain and grow the station.
Agreed, it’s not fundamentally different, but it does have some new ideas and incorporates lessons learned form the ISS.
