      Not sure how it is in the US, but here in Canada dollar stores used to actually price things at a dollar, then it was two dollars, then three, now all of that has went out the window and they basically just sell things for “slightly cheaper” than full service grocery stores, up to tens of dollars, yet still call themselves dollar stores.

      The corporate chain dollar stores (which is most of them) are selling mostly expensive brand name products too now instead of cheaper generic ones, which is a shame because in the vast majority of cases generic is just as or very nearly as good.
