The property taxes one was something I was just thinking about the other day. Basically no one talks about it but it’s such an easy way to reinforce existing issues
That one is a legit problem.
how does spiritual bypassing have anything at all to do with racism.
What even IS that?
far as i can tell its using spiritualism as a defense mechanism/escapism from the problems in your life. so honestly no clue how thats racists.
It’s so you can be labeled Nazi-adjacent so they can punch you without due process.
Serious question about cultural appropriation. What is it? Like, I wear non la, or Asian conical hat when I go fishing. The reason is because I hike through thick brush to get to spots where nobody else goes. Those hats allow me to tip my head forward, and it pushes the brush to the side as I walk through without getting hung in the branches. It helps to keep parasites out of my hair.
It’s a superior design to a normal sun hat for what I do. Is that cultural appropriation? Or, is it only cultural appropriation if it’s disrespectful? But if it’s only when you’re being disrespectful. Then what about people that view just the very act of wearing or using something from a different culture as disrespectful?
The idea that any entity or group can “own” an idea or concept is bullshit. Just as copyright and patents are bullshit, so is “cultural appropriation”
The concept of cultural appropriation is mostly bullshit. Almost every single behavior and action every person takes is richly informed by multiple cultures, whether it language, clothes, food, or beliefs.
I think the term only makes sense if it’s done in a disrespectful way, e.g. cracking a joke or wearing a sacred ceremonial headress to a frat party.
But otherwise no culture “owns” any behavior or idea.
The key part here is the note about disrespect. If you are using aspects of a culture but doing so with honest intentions then most people from that culture would be delighted to see you participate in their traditions
Yeah absolutely, most people get a kick out of seeing someone else embrace a part of their culture. The key, as you say, is having a go of it without disrespecting the culture.
The people who get offended over it tend to be white saviour types, which is in the picture, as it should be.
I appreciate the well thought out response. I’m an old millennial and kind of a loner, hence a hobby that I do by myself away from people. So, until recently I would have had to rely on Reddit to answer a question like that. Which I think we both know how that would have gone.
Once again. Thank you for your time.
Thing is with cultural appropriation oh yes there’s Chinatown oh and also people from China happened to live in Chinatown that’s cultural appropriation it doesn’t really matter who or what has a culture it is the freedom of speech to be able to poo on it and turn it into whatever now that may be cringe but cringe is part of the internet

race is real, whether u like the effects it has on things or would like it to not be, it is, and we need to think and act according to that fact. The fact that race is a social construct does not make it any more harmless or ignorable for its victims than a socially constructed tank rolling over you or say a socially constructed police dragging u to a socially constructed prison for not paying your socially constructed debt.
To try to pretend race isnt there and that it does not have an effect on the lives of the people that race was design to oppress IS racism.
Racism is real, not race. Don’t shorthand it.
Race is a biological thing and of course it’s real. Why can’t we just accept that there are different races and be proud of that?
We’re one species, and should hold together as one, be there for each other, empathize with each other. But saying we’re one race is like saying we all have the same hair color… Why would we act like this isn’t real, instead of accepting that it is okay that there are variations?
There are different skin colors, hair textures, nose shapes, etc. That human variation is all real. What isn’t real is race. That is to say, these phenotypes don’t combine into meaningful or stable categories that reflect some reality outside culture.
Hot damn. I was just about to say that I like the view but it disagrees with biology - then googled it to be sure, and saw that this is actually true. In biology, humans aren’t categorized into races anymore. I had no idea! I learned something today.
The way I see it, one’s race is something to be celebrated, cherished, and to be proud of, but it should never be the basis for how you treat other people.
I agree with you, but you will get shut down because it hurts the narrative. Those terms will be called “dog whistles” or something stupid like that.
So you’re a covert white supremacist?

Same. I know I’m not a white supremacist, but I’m with you on the color blindness and all that.
You can’t win with these people. They’re racists. I don’t even play the stupid game anymore.
