If course mods make it more seamless by implementing currency systems directly into the game, but the basic premise is selling in game power for real money. Up until the early-mid 90s there were the lingering effects of arcade-oriented design where shit was super hard to get your quarters, but yeah even that’s not so bad compared to the newer shit that takes your quarters digitally.
