The National Science Foundation, the federal agency that oversees the U.S. Antarctic Program, published a report in 2022 in which 59% of women said they’d experienced harassment or assault while on the ice, and 72% of women said such behavior was a problem in Antarctica.
But the problem goes beyond the harassment, The Associated Press found. In reviewing court records and internal communications, and in interviews with more than a dozen current and former employees, the AP uncovered a pattern of women who said their claims of harassment or assault were minimized by their employers, often leading to them or others being put in further danger.
Maybe instead of arming women to stop men from raping them, we start teaching our men that masculinity does not equal sex and sex does not equal power?
We do teach that. Men (and women) who rape know raping is wrong and still do it anyway.
You didn’t read what I wrote. You need to do more than teach that rape is wrong. You need to divorce sex from both masculinity and power.
That will do nothing. People who get off on it aren’t going to suddenly not get off on it because you repeat a bunch of words to them. There’s never been a moment in history where rape hasn’t been desired for by a percentage of the population, and unless you’ve implemented some sort of Equalibrium-type society where everyone is force-fed regular injections that keep them compliant, it’s not happening.
Don’t get me wrong, teaching works for most people, but not all. It’s not going to be eliminated by talking theory at them that forcing someone to submit to them sexual no longer means power.
When was that moment in history when society had previously decided to divorce sex from masculinity and power? I must have missed that in my history classes.
How do you effectively take the feeling of power away from them? It doesn’t matter what society says.
sure. but until that day comes…we just hope? wing and a prayer that we dont become victims?
Well, again, women are not being raped right and left in the UK and Australia. So maybe that’s not the only solution.
have you checked the rape stats for UK? my brother in christ…
Please show me the difference between rape stats in the US and the UK. And don’t tell me to look it up for myself, that’s your job.
how is it my job to educate you? please explain that…because if it is my job, id rather just keep you ignorant. now that doesn’t sound very good does it? oh no!!! you’ll suddenly find the motivation to look beyond your own scope if you do your own due diligence!! curses!!!
Waiting for that data on rape. You made claim. Let’s see it.

bro lol you walked into that one
That’s not what I asked for. I asked for a comparison with the U.S… I knew you’d be dishonest, which is part of the reason I’m blocking you.
oh you sweet summer child. i really do hope you never have to experience a traumatic event first hand. however, some of us have. and what really makes it worse is that those who haven’t been made a victim just spout how its not that bad for them because their own lives haven’t suffered through it, and it wont make sense to those people until it happens to them and that…that’s the really sad part. victim blaming. UK and Australia have just as bad rape problems as anywhere else in this world. im just struggling to find out why you want everyone to trust their safety to ths ‘social contract’ which is a layer of air and that’s it.
If UK and Australia have just as bad rape problems as the rest of the world and the rest of the world includes the U.S., where lots of women own guns, that doesn’t sound like a solution.
what should women do to protect themselves?
If only there were lots of non-lethal things that would stop an attacker. Nope. People can only protect themselves with guns and absolutely nothing else in the world.
you really are more upset and mad that guns exist. and not the fact that humans have killing ingrained in their nature?
Not really interested in personal attacks, sorry. If that’s what you’re resorting to now, we can end this here and I can block you.
Psycho
I’ve been called worse. (you can’t see me, but I’m T-posing on you)
