Probably not if there was no change in power, but then, if there was no change in power, it’s highly unlikely they’d ever try either unless they were backed into a corner about it. Still, if the tools of western empire were actually interested in peace (which they continuously show they are not), they would try for it even if it was a long shot. But they aren’t, so they don’t.
