It’s great that stuff like inclusive terminology actually makes the cut though - it shows a willingness to change from the people that actually make things happen in projects like this. Same with the code of conduct from a few years back, and the fact that Richard Stallman was not immune from metoo. (I give a lot of credit to Linus for stepping back from the project leadership for a little while while he worked through his way of approaching his colleagues - something the poster of top comment in that thread probably wasn’t too keen on.) There’s a strong strain of liberalism through some of it to be sure but IMO it’s a good reflection of the leadership of these communities.
Yes, it’s definitely good. Reactionaries are overreacting because they don’t want to accept that the language they use everyday might have racist undertones.
