They joined before 1949. Because of the sensitive nature of the situation, politics cannot be brought up at all when I meet them, but that does not stop my excitement! I’m posting here because I have nowhere else to talk about this. Yes they are extremely old. They’re not actually sure what year they were born because they might have faked their identity at some point to avoid persecution.

That’s a good idea. I’m going to see if I can ask a leading question to the effect of “considering your life experiences, what do you think about the world today?” or “what has been the biggest change you’ve seen in your lifetime?”
