anti-vax views are unfortunately high enough in the elderly population to make their vaccination rates suboptimal. this will result in many excess deaths. the cpc should have used the time bought via zero covid to overcome this issue. now, the unvaccinated will pay the price.

Plays right into the “authoritarian ebil Winnie Pooh police state” propaganda.

Since sadly most of the world has associated “vaccine mandate” as a negative.

what? this is about chinese citizens, not how the rest of the world perceives vaccine mandates. unless chinese citizens also feel the same way? if so, what’s stopping the government from implementing one anyway?

Chinese people are not magically more tolerant of coercive measures than any other people. The CPC has as high an approval rating as it does precisely because it does its best to not use coercive measures when it doesn’t need to. And when they are used such as with the zero-Covid lockdown and testing policies then they make sure to make a good case for them and justify logically why it is necesary so that the citizens are generally on board. The Chinese government is much more sensitive to public opinion than western “democracies” are, it is a western myth that the CPC can just do as they wish with no regard to how it will be perceived by the people. Even if we use the nonsense term “authoritarian” that the western propagandists like so much, China is much less “authoritarian” to its people than liberal democracies are. Regular people are generally left alone by the government to live their lives in peace. You will notice also that China has much less of a police presence in public than even European countries do, let alone the police state USA. The ones who chafe under the “authoritarian” control of the CPC are the capitalists, and that’s what bothers the west so much.

Of course we can argue that the Chinese government should have done a better job with media and public relations outreach programs to convince more people of the need and efficacy of the vaccines. But there is only so much you can do at the end of the day. And if you look at their vaccination rates they are actually quite good in comparison to most other countries.
