As an artist, I think it is a net negative for us. Disregarding the copyright issue, I think it’s also consolidating power into large corporations, going to kill learning fundamental skills (rip next generation of artists), and turn the profession into a low skill minimum wage job. Artists that spent years learning and perfecting their skills will be worth nothing and I think it’s a pretty depressing future for us. Anways thoughts?
I think that it’s just a technology like any other, and we can’t get caught up in Ludditism. New technologies will always be misused in the interest of capitalist growth. Art has long, long been commodified, and this is just the next step in devaluing its creators - just like any other industry. Besides, in this situation specifically there’s not really anything you could do to fight back against it - there’s no factory to burn down. People have been trying to extend copyright laws to crack down on AI art, but like. Come on.
