In my experience IRL (imperial core) and online, “Maoists” are often well read and intelligent but are also somehow completely unhinged. I mean specifically that kind of Maoist who rejects MZT and uphold Gonzalo Thought, for example. You know the kind.

Does anyone have an analysis as to what makes people become this sort of leftist, or any experience helping them back to the real world, as it were? All the Maoists I’ve known would make great comrades if they weren’t constantly wrecking or trying to wreck things in a given area. It may be of use to try to pull some back from the brink.

Show them the current CPC’s take on Mao, which is that Mao, although earnest, might have gone a little too far in his restructuring of China.

If they cant take the word of the people who were affected by his policy then maybe you arent talking with a principled socialist.

The main thing to realize is that each revolution is different, and can be held in high regards. To call oneself a “Maoist” is just saying I am a Marxist Leninist who refuses to acknowledge my own community/nations needs in lieu of accepting Mao’s reforms as a blanket algorithm for revolution. Thats not materialist.

Really excellent point. If people who agree with you on worldview (communists) and lived through the policies and results then they’ll have a better and more accurate analysis than a westerner living under capitalism a world away
