The technology has most likely advanced a lot which must have changed the production process but I don’t know how a hobbyist lens maker will find the hobbyist engineers who will create the sophisticated machinery for them to use. Also I am not sure if considering the high rate at which people are needing spectacles these days we will have the luxury to wait for the goddess of fortune to bless us with hobbyistd of the required presdisposition.
