Safe to say that we were all pretty nuke-aware when that came out. It certainly didn’t help assuage our anxieties.

I mean, is it too much to ask that people wipe the Santorum off before the salad tossing begins?

Paul Verhoeven is one sick fuck. I’ll watch anything he’s made.

Man, if you caught the scene of Barlow sitting up in his coffin screaming, you got the gist of it.

Aw shit. You just reminded me of seeing Jaws from the back seat of the station wagon at the drive in at 7 when I was supposed to be sleeping.

Hey, my now very adult daughter feels the same way about The Fox and the Hound. Not judging.

I’m assuming the Cronenberg version.

Salem’s Lot. Watched it with a buddy on a late night sleepover when it was on TV in the late '70s, probably 8 or 9 years old. I’ll never forget Barlow sitting up in his coffin. Or my buddy barfing when he did it.
I also won’t soon forget seeing a late-night new years eve showing of Caligula a few years later. My tiny mind wasn’t ready for either the onslaught of tits or beheadings.

Tell me you dont have kids without telling me you dont have kids.

Kids today have joysticks and xbox. Back in my day, we just had stick and box. We were definitely banging at 14.

It’s long struck me as odd that land, power, water, and cooling intensive infrastructure doesn’t take root in more remote arctic and sub-arctic locations where the cooling is mitigated, hydro plants exist to provide local power, excess heat can be used for other activities like heating other buildings or greenhouses, and even keeping some water ice-free through the winter has benefit. The big obstacle of course is the fibre plumbing for getting the data to and from the site, but that seems pretty solvable.
But make sure to bill for the full 12 hours.

I’m sure this is the first of a long list of necessary public sector cuts that we’re going to see. Not necessary because the program or the cause aren’t justifiable. Necessary because a) we have a budget problem that existed well before the current tariff and soveriegnty crisis, and b) this government is about to commit to a whole bunch of new spending on infrastructure and national defence. We can’t have it all and still reasonably pay for it. Hell, we may still not be able to pay for it.
But that said, consider priorities: Is women and gender equality better served by this program, or by having a safe, secure, and prosperous nation? Look south to consider the alternative.
I’d love to see WAGE stick around. Hell, I’d like to see it expanded. In the meantime, Canadians, especially the menfolk, can commit to equality each and every day to rightfully improve the conditions of women.

Humanity

That’s what his first term was. He either doesn’t listen to good advice or doesn’t care. Either way, it’s still a shitshow.

Deliberately threatening the cohort of people most likely to consider buying your vehicles isn’t exactly a winning strategy. Elon asking ‘how do I woo Tesla buyers back?’ is like the Governor of California asking ‘How do we woo Canadian tourists back?’
You don’t. It’s like asking ‘how big does the bribe have to be for you to sacrifice your every principle?’ You can’t. There is no argument you can make that isn’t fundamentally offensive on its face. That market is gone forever.

Buy Canadian isn’t always an option. But buying non-American almost always is. And since a huge part of the protest at this time is about putting the US in the penalty box, it’s an acceptable tradeoff.
If he remained a major shareholder, I’d never buy one. And I’m in the market.
I was recently listening to a podcast interviewing Chris Columbus on how they adapted the novel. It was the first thing he wrote that got picked up. I’ve never read the original screenplay, but they ended up cutting out the most graphic stuff. For example, at one point a disembodied head comes rolling down the stairs due to gremlin shenanigans.
So you experience could definitely have been worse.
