Comradeship // Freechat•What's the most deranged political hot take you've ever seen?
26·2 years agoI was discussing with a hardcore neo-liberal, almost to the degree of ancap about government and he pointed out, that when centralizing power thr rights of minorities are often overlooked, he said: “Suddenly 3% of the popultation just becomes a meaningless number that can just be sent to their death”. The next day, we were discussing about covid restrictions, where my point was simply, that individual freedoms don’t count anymore, when there is harm to other. He simply responded with. “oh the 3% that are actually in danger when getting covid, can just stay inside, as if it was worth it restricting myself for them.”
I think it is clear that degrowth can not happen under a capitalist system and when talking about degrowth in it the ideas associated are ofte no more than buzzwords. What exactly does “ethical consumption” mean under capitalism for example.
Also the word degrowth is not proper, a economy can only decrease as long as it can provide necessary goods for citizens, when the popultation grows, the economy has to grow aswell.
I believe, that under communism we won’t define ourselfs by our consumption and thus we can get rid of our artificial desires, that now plague our planet. I therefore think that what you describe as degrowth is not a problem in communism, but rather a consequence of it.
I’ve shat my bed, can I sleep in yours instead.

On my laptop I use EndeavourOS with Plasma, and on my Desktop I use Fedora with i3wm. Have switched from windows ~1 year ago and I couldn’t be happier, haven’t had any issues and my devices now do feel like my devices.

Österreich•Question for any communists in Austria: Fill us in, what's the state of communist parties/communist movements over there?
1·3 years agoThe communist party in austria has pretty much been nonexistent in state wide politics since the 1950s. However in recent years the KPÖ has had some sucesses in local polls, mostly due to the persons running, but also due to missing alternatives on the left. In Graz, the second biggest city, the mayor Elke Kahr is in the KPÖ, however Graz has always been a strong bastion for them. More suprising was the result in Salzburg, where in the state Salzburg the KPÖ was the 4th strongest party, and in the city Salzburg even the second stronges.
The party program was mainly focused around making rent cheap, I think a topic that our social democrats would have had these points in the 70s as well. The party program is in no way communist in a ML sense, but I think that is ok, because the revolution won’t happen on the polling booth, but it can lead to more power to the working class, which can be used as a basis.
There are also two communist student parties, that stick to their name a bit more, but high school politics is sadly pretty irrelevant.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•For everyone new to Lemmy, how are you finding the experience?English
4·3 years agoI think it is great and after creating an account (which can be confusing at first) the experience is smooth and almost as good as with reddit. I do hope tho, that the influx of new users will sustain, and a lively community will develop, because as of now, the amount of posts feels very managable.

Other than the decent system ruining our future, because a preventable catastrophe has been left to unfold because of corporate greed, the analogy is senseless from a pure logical sense. Of course you aren’t just gonna pick the cheapest option when deciding to plan a tunnel or a bridge, you go with the option that makes the most sense. The information problem is of course more about how we knoe the desires to be fulfilled, but even there, don’t you think, that most desires, that capitalism fullfills are nothing more but artificial. Nodoby would desire a bigger car, if a bigger car would not exist. And while it is true that former socialist countries had that problem, of not meeting peoples desires, new forms of socialism could utalize the internet to have a democratic edge on that for example. I would highly recommend you, to step out of your neoliberal bubble, and read Thomas Piketty’s “A quick history of equality”, and look up PlasticPills on Youtube, he has some really interresting videos on how capitalism forges us.
