Any client of that company can just check if Dutch citizens are in the database. Even Dutch police has been a client so I’m sure the AP has the right connections to find out.
Where in Europe do you consider islam to be more than a ‘cultural category like Christianity’? Most European countries have large Christian conservative political parties that are preventing trans people from getting the medical care they need and women from having ownership of their bodies when they’re pregnant.
As a trans person fundamentalist Christians are a much bigger threat to me than fundamentalist muslims. I experience solidarity from muslims who know what it’s like to be marginalised and discriminated against. There are muslim people who would like to restrict my determination over my own body, but there are way more Christians in my country who would like to do the same and they pose and actual threat to me.
Wanting to ban mosques, the quran and muslim clothing like niqabs sounds pretty fascist to me (that’s what the biggest political party in The Netherlands wants). Thinking the European far right (that is rapidly gaining grounds) isn’t fascist or fascist leaning is a wild take.
Sure, it’s a term relative to time and place. Are people that want to preserve labour rights called conservatives in your country?
In most places in the West conservatives don’t really want to preserve the status quo, they’re often reactionary and want to go ‘back’ to a previous (or imaginary) status quo
A conservative because you probably don’t live in a communist country which means that workers are being stolen from which means that the laws aren’t as pro labour as you describe them to be.
Different communities then I guess, I browse ‘all’ a lot.
I guess me being a mathematician makes me notice them more. I’ve seen many in several communities, but me being biased makes me wish there were more.
This meme is highly misinformed about how any of these academic subjects work though. (Meta)physicists and theologists don’t make claims, they research the consequences of certain assumptions. Most elementary sciences work that way.
I think everyone with a niche skill experiences that to some extent. Almost all posts about mathematics on lemmy attract people acting like they understand what’s going on while making wrong claims lol, I only rarely see comments that are fully correct.
Three points:
Palestine is not as backwards as Westerners think and just assuming that gay people do not exist there openly without any actual proof is orientalist. I personally know openly queer Palestinians from Gaza.
The fact that not all queer people are out openly does not mean they don’t exist and it does not mean that they aren’t being targeted by Israel. IDF soldiers are targeting queer Palestinians and torturing them in heinous ways because they are queer.
The point of Israel killing and targeting queer people in their war is made to connect it to the queer struggle as it’s a clear example of intersectionality. Pride is for the queers worldwide, that includes Palestinian queers who are currently struggling the hardest.
Killing and torturing gay and trans Palestinians is more likely the reason why Israel isn’t very popular in the queer community.
Of course middle class people get stolen from, but they often use their job as an excuse not to organise which is lame imo because I know a lot of people who have it worse and put in way more effort in community building
Middle class people often think that they’re barely getting by but forget that they live larger and more luxurious than necessary.
I see more racism, sexism and other bigotry than before. Although there certainly was a lot of that back then as well. Also bots.
That’s not an axiom or definition, it’s a consequence of the axioms that define arithmetic and can therefore be proven.
There’s a moment in ops where they’re clearly hiding from the rest of the crew that they’re hanging out.
So speculation isn’t allowed either? When 2 people in a show are having secret meetings together I think it’s pretty normal for the audience to speculate that they are dating (which was the case with Kira and Jadzia). I’m just expressing my disappointment that this speculation was false.
Also, I don’t like it when shows include obvious hints that two people of the same gender are dating and then never actually show it. Because this tactic is very often used to bait queer people while also keeping their homophobic audience. The result is that many shows won’t actually express any queer relationships because hinting at it is enough. Not saying that this is the case in ds9, but imo it’s a bigger problem with more material effects than what you’re describing.
Ah I don’t remember that scene. It’s been a while
I’m sure homeless people and victims of the opioid crisis in the US also don’t care about US achievements in for example the olympics but people still talk about them.
