I could be completely wrong, but my life experience so far suggests that the best way to get better at something is to put yourself into situations where you have to actually practice the skill. I’ve been fostering cats and kittens for a few years, and I think it has really pushed me to learn how to manage my emotions better.
Might be a bit tedious if you use a lot of different sounds for different apps, but could you make some custom notification tone files with lower volume? I just checked the mp3 trimmer app that I’ve used to make some custom tones of my own, and it has an option to adjust the volume of the output file.
I still use Craigslist, but it does seem like fewer other people do. I’ve never really cared to get top dollar for whatever I list, I mostly just want to avoid tossing it in the garbage or hauling it to a donation drop off, and it’s worked well for that. I’m currently browsing for a few items, and it does feel cluttered with dealers, even when supposedly limiting it for sale by owner only.
I tried Offer Up once a few years ago, and for some reason, it didn’t notify me of any responses, so by the time I thought to check it again, I had already sold the item through CL. I refuse to use any Meta products, so FB Marketplace effectively doesn’t exist to me.
I’ve used Windows since I can remember… at least since Windows 95, then probably early 2000’s, added OSX into the mix. I currently use an old Mac Mini as my Plex machine, and the computer provided by my employer runs Windows.
My “journey” began around 2015 on an old Dell laptop that I set up to dual boot Windows and Linux. I tried 2 or 3 distros, one of which was probably Ubuntu, before settling on Mint. I remember having enough minor issues with Mint that I kept booting back to Windows, and eventually stopped booting to Mint at all.
Then one day, I have no clue what I was trying to do, but I was confident that I knew what I was doing, so I just went for it without pulling up the instructions. Welp, I ended up deleting my bootloader, or something like that, and now couldn’t boot to any OS. I tried using my parents’ Mac to create a bootable USB, but that wasn’t working. I wound up buying and returning a random open box laptop from Best Buy just so I could create a functional bootable USB. I also found help from a very kind internet stranger who walked me through the process to fix my bootloader. They happened to only use Arch btw, so that’s what we used to get my laptop fixed.
That whole drama really scared me away from fiddling with it for a while, then I just got busy and had no motivation. That laptop is collecting dust and still dual boots Windows (7?) and headless Arch. I’m thinking of fiddling around with Linux again, but most definitely need something more noobie friendly than Arch without a DE.

That I really have absolutely zero interest in smelling their buttholes. Also, I sometimes eat plants.
Yeah, I guess I just might be a crazy cat person.
Their menus will be required to list comprehensive prices for each item, with all mandatory charges baked into one figure. Only fees that are entirely optional — like leaving a tip for staff — can be left out of the posted price.
In its new guidelines, the state says it won’t focus initial enforcement efforts on “fees that are paid directly and entirely by a restaurant to its workers, such as an automatic gratuity. However, businesses may be liable in private actions.”
If I’m reading all that correctly, they’re saying that automatic gratuities that are paid in full to staff are supposed to be included in the listed menu price, but they won’t actually be enforcing that initially? That’s odd and bound to cause some confusion for people when some restaurants choose to take advantage of this loophole.
Overall, this is quite exciting, but I’m still disappointed that sales tax seems to be exempt from this new law.
In your opinion, how should they be crediting it? I’m having trouble trying to imagine a good way that it could be credited within the song, and I can’t imagine very many people actually pay attention to the credits for music, especially when so few of us are buying physical copies anymore.
I’ve definitely experienced feeling annoyed at the new songs, but some have grown on me, and hearing the samples often leads me to add the original to my playlist. I’ve actually been having a lot of fun trying to see if I can name the original artist & song title whenever a new one pops up.
When listening to new music, I’m constantly recognizing how heavily they sample older songs that I remember listening to when I was a kid.
A night out with friends often ends at 9 or 10p because we’re all tired.
A night out with friends often includes a lot of discussion of various health issues and encouraging each to see a doctor.
I’m finding myself more and more avoidant of new technology. Or maybe it’s just that I’m getting more concerned about maintaining a little sliver of privacy?
The bird pictured is very likely male. Male birds tend to be brightly colored, while females and juveniles are often “dull-colored”, such as brown or grey.

Only if you use mmdd date format. The majority of the world uses ddmm.
My team is currently hiring, and I got to listen in on the conversation with HR when they were developing the job posting. The job posting includes requirements that the team knows they are unlikely to find, especially finding all of them in a single candidate. The posting calls them requirements, but really it’s more of a wish list. If you come across listings where you meet half of their requirements (wish list), and think you can learn some of the others, you should apply.
I read somewhere a while back regarding the contaminated apple sauce, that it may be added intentionally since the ground cinnamon powder is generally sold by weight, and I guess lead is cheaper per gram than cinnamon? I believe there’s also a few ways it could become contaminated accidentally.
Hahaha yes! Orange is definitely the trouble maker! He’s always been the first one to figure out how to climb/jump to new places, and he’s had scabs on his nose/whisker pads for the past few weeks because he just keeps getting scraped up.
Funny thing, I actually started fostering with the intention of “failing”. I had 1 cat that I had adopted as a kitten, and he used to play with my roommate’s cat, but then we moved and I wasn’t sure if my cat missed having a buddy around, so I decided to give fostering a shot as a way to test it out.
One of the things that helps me say goodbye is knowing that I can’t take in new fosters if the current ones stay with me. I also get to meet all of the potential adopters, and most of them send me updates on the kittens as they get settled in, so I feel good knowing they’re in good homes.
I’m so sorry for your losses, but glad I could brighten your day a little. I hope you’re both getting the support you need to process things.
