True, but punks come in different flavors. r/punk punks take themselves way too seriously, and are not nearly as fun as r/hardcore punks in my opinion. I worry it might be hard to capture the magic of r/hardcore

It’s a little of both.
Never expect anyone to have convictions, or to ever stand for anything, especially not on Reddit. Most people, especially on there, are mindless consumerist drones who are all talk no walk. I don’t say that to be mean, I say it as a fact. Look at what happened with the Netflix password sharing situation: more sign ups than they’ve seen before despite an objectively shittier experience. These people don’t care about anything outside of their little comforts, and they feel intimidated and threatened by anyone who does.
Just leave it behind. Treat the Fediverse as a brand new fun lil thing. Some will move over, most will stay on Reddit. It was never going to go any other way, and thinking it was/will is just going to set you up for disappointment.
Lemmy is cool, this technology is cool, and we don’t need them.
r/hardcore (hardcore punk, not porn) is the only subreddit i miss. Maybe I’ll make one once I get more accustomed to Lemmy, but who knows if it will draw a similar crowd. Those guys are really funny though. Mean, but funny.

Sheesh, glad BeeHaw rejected my signup then. I don’t mind seeing toxicity and trolling, I want to be able to see as much of the content posted as possible without too many restrictions. They can have their safe space, I have no problen with that at all and I understand the necessity, but for me I want to see both the beautiful and the ugly.
