2·28 days agoWell, the fun should be in some light banter. Someone reported for vile hate speech should get a system wide mute as a warning for some time and if they cannot behave after, take away their chat rights permanent. Why should it be tolerated? And people after that intent on ruining stuff for others, can be banned outright.
It can all be done on account/license key, IP and hardware ID.
Community servers did the same. People would just move server and do it again, enter shared banlists.
Big tech is more than able to fix this issue, they are just not willing. And the lack of consequences for the last decade just made the problem worse.
Like with corpos thinking the rules don’t apply to them, the whole system and lack of consequences spawn stuff like trump… and in the online “smacktalk” of days gone by has grown into something that needs to be stepped on.
I used to run around CS with a little spray that had a tent and “no camping sign” to smacktalk the sniping campers in their little corner. That was fun…
I think that crowd sourcing the stuff should be easy. Hey user xyz you have been added to the mutelists of 50 people now, this means your chat will be monitored by our chat monitoring system more actively. Hey user xyz you have been added to the Blocklist of 50 people, be aware your gameplay will be actively monitored by our systems and further reports could lead to a suspension of your account.
Etc etc.
More games should just allow you to disable chat. A friend of mine used to play with a little post-it covering the chat. It allowed him to enjoy the game.
There is a wide gap between some shit talking and the vile hatred you see people spewing online.
Telling people to harden up when smack talking their mother or their gameplay might fly… but idlt does not apply when people tell you to kill yourself in Ernest, Harras you outside a game.
With gaming becoming more mainstream, the tight knit communities playing on curated servers and policed by community admins have been replaced by platforms hosted by big tech and infested by the assholes that used to be too cool for gaming and the basement dwellers that used to be isolated and are now emboldened by their fellow basement dwellers, rednecks, and other generally unlovable people.
I’m so happy my brain does not allow me to process the chat while I’m playing games. I really have to stop and type something.
And there I have the rule that if I don’t have anything nice to say I say nothing.
Helldivers 2 allows me to help out fellow newer Helldivers using voice…
But the times I have seen examples of the vile stuff people put in chat, I just get sad… very sad… Mostly for the people that think that stuff is anything you can say to someone else.

452·3 months agoA trillion dollar company using your product in one of their flagship products without a support contract can fuck right off.
Microsoft should be putting up money via the support contract to support the creators in maintaining and further development of their product.
A one off payment might be technically sufficient, it is not ethically or morally sufficient. And to put it in terms shareholders understand… support contract is cheaper than the cost of an alternative.

But they have such a good culture that allows for plenty of living space to raise a family, much time off and encourages social mixing that allows you to meet your partner.
This is normal. Upscaling any production will show you where the bottlenecks in your supply chain are.
It is shitty in the current context, but still banning products due to human rights abuses is a good thing.
Now the aim is to resolve the bottleneck post haste.

Well, if Putin says he considers Odessa part of Russia (see the tass article), we should believe him. The fact Odessa has not had a referendum and was annexed is not for lack of trying.
And the other 5 are according to Russian law, Russia. Meaning they can send conscripts there legally, as they can only be deployed within Russian borders.
5 contested regions? Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporhizhia, Kherson, Crimea, Odessa.
And no #2 Kharkiv and #3 Odessa are both on Putin’s “wishlist”.
The end goal is to link up the coast to Transnistria and make what is left of Ukraine landlocked.
The west is helping a country defend itself.
Putin does not want to talk or negotiate. His offer for Ukraine is surrender. Ukraine would need to give up the 4 oblasts that Russia considers part of Russia, including their 2nd and 3rd largest cities.
Judging by how civilians fared in cities like mariopol and bucha, millions will die then anyway.
Talking with Russia will not resolve anything. Letting up on Russia will only allow them to come back stronger.
Because all the future conflicts that where prepared for where low intensity high tech skirmishes, or curb stomping terrorists in caves.
Too many people in the decision tree believed that high intensity positional warfare that uses over 10k shells a day where a thing of the past.
Just look at the stats of south Korea’s artillery stockpiles. They know how to party.
If you want to field even 20pct of the artillery at war strength 800 artillery pieces that each fire 10 shells a day. That would be 8K shells a day.
If you calculate for a 90 day engagement you would need a stockpile of 720.000 shells. Based on the fact north Korea supplied several million shells to Russia, and south Korea loaned 500k shells to the US, you can imagine the stockpile south Korea has will also be several million shells. But in Europe, ammo stockpiles run dry with 2 weeks of bombing Libya.
And it is not as if military leadership was not yelling about this. But the peace dividend was spent on other stuff than war stocks. While Russia stocked it’s war machine (and funded super yachts).
We all have to thank our lucky stars for the corruption in Russia… because if they would have spent effectively and organized effectively and actually trained. They would have rolled up to the Polish border.
