The animation on one punch man season 1 and 2 were absolutely phenomenal, but the animation on season 3 wasn’t the absolute worst. The scenes where no one moves really do stand out, and they looked egregiously bad, but the combat scenes were okay. I admit, season 1 and 2 looked phenomenal and comparatively speaking 3’s combat sequences were awful in comparison, but it’s hardly unwatchable. It was okay.
With all the complaints I assumed the combat scenes would also be completely still, but the show didn’t completely drop the ball there too.
Compared to season 1 and 2 this looks terrible, but otherwise it compares fine with the average anime.
I thought Season 2 was noticeably worse then season 1. Still enjoyable, but definitely not as top notch. I’m sorry to hear that it continues to decline. I wish they gave the artists more time and resources to produce actually good art.
My brother’s told me the team lead said they put heart in soul into this. I was curious if it was a small studio but its a veteran one. Something went awry.
The studio for 2 and 3 isn’t necessarily a bad studio, but as I understand it the way they’re run is that they’re required to do lots and lots of budget minimal-frame animation and aren’t afforded much if any room to make up for it with sakuga scenes. They’re a better fit for something like Machikado Mazoku that’s a subdued mostly-dialogue series with comparatively easy little visual gags and minimal action scenes, than for shonen action like One Punch Man.
After looking though their very extensive list of works I very much to agree. They are the same size as ufotable but are very focused on quantity over quality.
Well their weren’t going to say they intentionally half-assed it lol
From my (very brief and shallow)reading of the sub apparently Bandai forced the studio into a too short production timeframe, but idk the veracity or source of that
Allegedly they weren’t given enough time to make the anime, and time is really the most important thing with animation, so it’s not surprising to see a competent studio make a trashfire show if they don’t have the time they need.
Just sad. I feel sorry for the team having to cut corners to push out slop.
It is god damned terrible. Even in the good scenes it’s still terrible. This is the muscle woman fanservice scene that they clearly put more effort into, check out the chain and bandaid.

This almost looks like something made with “AI”. No temporal awareness whatsoever

Uhhh lol
SIX FINGERS what the ever living fuck
Actually it helps her pole vault better
I’m reporting this for bodyshaming, what’s wrong with polydactilia??? /j
Lol. Lmao even. This is future the right wants. You may not like it, but this is the height of female beauty. Just IMAGINE what those hands can do.
spoiler
Probably type really fast?
Gonna be honest I think that is AI; no way an artist forgot about the bandaid thing while drawing frames
I mean…maybe she heals like really fast, also the chain just briefly forgot where it was supposed to be standing
I didn’t watch it, I’ve only seen one clip of action and it seems fine, basically what you could expect from any seasonal anime. But the worst offenders are truly disastrous. Holding on a still shot for 30 seconds, colouring a manga panel and leaving a character’s hair cropped off, the neon filters on everything all look absolutely terrible. These kind of mishaps would be terrible in any low budget seasonal anime, but for one of the most popular international anime, with such incredible animation in season one, it’s beyond awful. The bar was high, then season 3 melted it down and sold it for cigarettes.
Yeah the first few minutes of episode 1 was throwing my brain for a loop when I realized absolutely no one was moving, only sometimes some basic hand movement (the hand not even shown connected to the arm; a close up that allows for just the hand to go up and down)
OPM is the only anime I really like(i like dungeon meshi, one piece and black lagoon but not enough to finish them, and I guess Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh and card captors from when I was a kid count, but OPM is the only anime I’d seen every episode of till this season), I downloaded and watch the first two eps of S3 but they weren’t doing for me but I couldn’t put my finger on why, so I thought I just wasn’t in the mood and would try again later
I wasn’t aware of the negative online reaction at all at the time, but now I’m wondering if I picked up on the bad animation etc subconsciously, anyway I will try give it go at some point and try to take it objectively and unbiased
Have you watched Mob Psycho 100? Same mangaka, but it has amazing animation for all three seasons (and generally better writing, imo).
Dled S1 just watched first ep p good, animation’s excellent especially in the psychic scenes
Ty for recc
np, it’s my favorite anime.
While not as apparent in the first episode, it also has a really heartfelt interpersonal narrative underneath the absurd humor and over the top fights, which is the main thing I like about it.
ha yeah i’m on ep 7 now, there’s some good deep messages, about to get more into the brother stuff it seems
Also is the car brand Nissan a play on Nii-san ‘older-brother’?
That’s a funny connection. I looked it up and the name is an abbreviation of “Nihon Sangyo” (Japanese Industries), just taking the first syllable of each word.
Nah I have better uses of my time like arguing about 40k lore and the zodiac killer on reddit
I’m jk I’ll put it on the list, this dude looks a bit like Saitama with hair

Season one was good.
Maybe its because I watched mob psycho first, but the animation of season 1 didnt really stand out to me idk.
I can’t remember season 1 all that well, but I do remember the combat sequence in 2 between Saitama and Genos was extremely well animated (I think it’s probably one of the top scenes people recall of a well animated fight sequence out of OPM)
It’s very fun too.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
S1 had excellent animation. It’s not as interesting as Mob Psycho’s, but it’s still far above most other action anime.
Despite being battle shounen slop, the issue is that the series isn’t just a montage of fight animations, there’s a lot of other shit and it’s miserable to sit through slide shows where the slides themselves usually don’t even look interesting.
One Punch man Season 3 was not daijoubu
I loved season one but never felt compelled to watch more despite all the positive reviews of season 2. Seeing more felt superfluous, like someone continuing to tell you a joke after you obviously got and enjoyed the punchline.
It’s the same reason I never watched after Toy Story 3. I was like, “well, that was a great ending. I’m good on these characters and situations now”.
Part of it must be that there’s so much media to watch now. I’m forever behind on my recommended to me list of movies, shows, anime, and games.
