Most of the times, American journalists write using the inversed pyramid style where the most important stuff is said first with than going down from decreasing importance.
An article is divided into sections:
The Lede/Lead (first graf) which means the lead paragraph
The Nutgraf (second graf) which means nutshell paragraph
The Body
The Closing
Journalists usually write in the third person, so no “I” or “you” except if it is opinion piece then “I” and “you” is more acceptable depending on the media outlet you are writing for.
If you ever study journalism at least in the United States they will tell you it is the job of the journalist to be neutral and objective. This is bullsh** as in America there is no just thing as neutral and objective. Neutrality and objectivity benefits status quo, establishment journalism which does not rock the boat and does not fight against powerful institutions.
I only just realised now reading your post as dialectical materialists we should be reading/watching news from an anti-positivist approach (which we may have been doing anyway but now will do more consciously).
What about the part where they add irrelevant or misleading filler content instead of context
Probably on the job training is my guess. They are very utopian about journalism during my education based journalism training, talking about how journalism is all about neutrality and objectivity.
