With the possibility of reddit taking down r/combatfootage some time in the future, I’ve been thinking that it would be a shame for all the footage that’s effectively been archived there to disappear. So I was wondering what peoples thoughts are around migrating old footage from r/combatfootage to here.

Doing so could lead to a large volume of footage posted in a short amount of time, and possibly quite a few reposts, but on the positive side it would prevent a lot of footage from being lost, and could help this community grow with people migrating over along with their footage.

I don’t mean to advocate for either doing or not doing this, but think it’s a discussion that’s worth having.

IPFS is imo the best way to go, anyone can help store parts of the footage. It’s pretty easy to understand if you’ve ever used torrents. https://github.com/ipfs/ipfs-desktop

Once lemmy adds a proper video player/embed support ill create a comprehensive guide for the community on how to upload. Debating on whether to ban all other ‘non-permenant’ media (imgur, etc)

its like uTorrent 2.2.1 but its got no file management features, isnt really stable in my experience and not ready to be used to share videos on Lemmy.
