The mastodon and lemmy content I’m seeing feels like 90% of it comes from people who are:

~30 years old or older

tech enthusiasts/workers
-
linux users
There’s nothing wrong with that particular demographic or anything, but it doesn’t feel like a win to me if the entire fediverse is just one big monoculture.
I wonder what it is that is keeping more diverse users away? Is picking a server/federation too complicated? Or is it that they don’t see any content that they like?

Same. 30s, healthcare, no linux. Not even tech savvy at all, but I can follow directions well enough.

I have the feeling people in healthcare also care more about moral issues, which was the main driver of leaving reddit, so it makes sense.
Yeah. That’s definitely true. I also care a lot more about real human-human connection, and more and more over the last few years Reddit just felt like a rage-filled hate fest devoid of any humanism. Now, I didn’t know Lemmy would have more real discussion/dialogue, but it’s definitely something that’s kept me here and made me post more
