Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Dmitry Novikov published an article in the newspaper Pravda
It is impossible to ignore this fact: the life of humanity is increasingly determined by the growing threat of a new world war. Reactionary tendencies are spreading. Capital is attacking the rights of the working class. The ultra-right forces are growing stronger. Fascism is again receiving the patronage of oligarchic circles. Neocolonialism is looking for ways to revive. Big capital is ruthless in its desire to ensure its hegemony. Our country is also at the center of its attacks.
The socio-economic crisis is the main source of many alarming processes and phenomena. The growing threat of fascism is one of them. The reincarnation of Nazi practices is associated with attempts to justify them ideologically. This results, among other things, in the desire to rewrite the history of World War II.
These are the assessments of the CPRF. They have been voiced more than once at the plenary sessions of the Central Committee of the party and were recently confirmed during the work of its XIX Congress. Solidarity with these conclusions was also expressed by the II International Anti-Fascist Forum. The CPRF held it in April, gathering 160 delegations from the countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America in Moscow. All its participants are the heirs of the great union of fighters against fascist barbarity.
The Union of Defenders of Peace throughout the World was formed during the difficult years of World War II. Its core consisted of resolute opponents of capitalist oppression and supporters of social justice. In the post-war years, the development of a mass movement for peace became one of the most important tasks of the Soviet Union and all communists on the planet.
For decades, the participants in the anti-war struggle remained comrades of the USSR. Its loss as a result of Gorbachev’s betrayal was a great blow to them. But even today, these forces - people, parties and entire states - are an important link in the defense of Russia from imperialist aggression. They are the ones who oppose those who attack our country in various ways: economically, politically, militarily.
Russia has many friends in different parts of the planet. They are the ones who make up the global majority that is increasingly uniting to fight neocolonialists. Together with China, India, Brazil, South Africa and other countries, BRICS and the SCO have been formed. The goal of these associations is a just world. The influence of these organizations is steadily growing.
On the world stage, Russia was able to make a U-turn from the treacherous Yeltsin-Kozyrev policy to protecting the rights of peoples to sovereign development. The participation of our party and its faction in the State Duma is exceptionally great. I am sure that the role of the CPRF in this U-turn will still find its attentive and objective researcher. Every citizen of the country who votes for our party can be proud of their personal involvement in this great work.
Cuba remains one of our allies. We began this year by supporting the International Parliamentary Forum, organized by the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba. Its participants gathered in Havana from different countries under the slogan “With all and for the benefit of all.” The forum demonstrated that the US State Department, which stubbornly includes Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, remains in the clear minority on this issue.
Cubans and sympathizers of the Island of Freedom know history well. And the calendar of 2025 is marked by many anniversaries. A special place among them belongs to two dates: the 155th anniversary of the birth of V. I. Lenin and the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. These two anniversaries are directly related to each other. It was Lenin’s policy that ensured the economic and cultural-historical integrity of Russia. It gave rise to the greatest achievements that turned the USSR into a highly developed advanced state. The brotherhood of our peoples, united in a new multinational community - the Soviet people - became the basis for the victory of the USSR in the war against fascism.
The fight against Lenin’s ideas is an invariable sign of neo-Nazism. The Bandera regime, establishing itself in Ukraine, deliberately destroyed monuments to the founder of the Soviet state. Alas, this was natural. The restoration of Lenin monuments in the liberated territories became a natural need for those who grew up and live on this land.
Lenin’s legacy lives on in the memory of Soviet people and their descendants. But this is precisely what not everyone likes. The shameful draping of the Mausoleum during the celebration of the Great Victory Day continues. The Yeltsin Center’s activities have not been curtailed. In some regions of Russia, Soviet monuments are being dismantled or moved, streets are being renamed. The Spas TV channel not only cobbled together a crude film, The Mummy, but is also trying to launch an entire anti-Leninist campaign.
The CPRF has every reason to continue to defend Lenin’s legacy. Its unconditional value was recalled by the April scientific and practical conference “The Birth of a Genius.” The CPRF and RUSO held it as part of the II International Anti-Fascist Forum.
A convincing response to attempts to rewrite the history of World War II was the exhibition of the CPRF faction in the State Duma, “The Foundations of the Great Victory.” In terms of scale and depth of content, it is comparable to a well-illustrated history textbook. It showed: the formation of the mighty Soviet state, the heroism of the people who accomplished labor and military feats, the CPRF’s fight against Russophobia and anti-Sovietism.
