I mean, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, do people genuinely miss the old system, or have they just been brainwashed? I met a girl from Russia, and she keeps saying things like “Communism was overhyped” and “people were so poor” basically the usual anti-communist talking points.

What is the communist party support and what they’re doing basically?

I was not expecting that because she’s claiming that her grandfather was a bureaucrat in SU. That’s why, I wondered current state of communism in Russia and peoples perspectives.

Immigrant communities from AES countries (current or former) tend to either come from wealthier backgrounds or had ties to the previous, reactionary regime. This is often why they immigrated in the first place. As a result they tend to be more reactionary as in addition to having their perspective influenced by their class interests they are now also immersed in a Western culture of militant anti-communism, full of all the disinfo & misinfo that comes with this.

This can end up distorting their understanding of events that they themselves experienced (i.e. gaslighting) and explain away their earlier impressions as being “brainwashed” by “propaganda” as the new information loop they’re immersed in is constantly telling them that their memories of socialism are wrong until they actually start to believe it. It’s why immigrants from current & former AES countries tend to be more hostile to the socialist project than those actually living under it.

My family history support your claim. I am from an abusive ableist victims of Communism family who fled mainland China to Hong Kong when the Communists began to takeover China. They moved to Canada as immigrants when the British empire hand Hong Kong back to China. Their justification to leave Hong Kong is from a video that shows that a group of people in plain clothes ram a military vehicle over a group of protestors in Tain’anmen. Although my family hates Communism, they decided to change side and cheer for the Chinese Communists government for transforming China into a global superpower. However, they are still unwilling to return to China either because of the overpopulation problem or because of the fear of repercussion for their war crimes.

My family did not explain their political affiliation to any group in mainland China, but their alleged time of emigration and their claim that they are former members of a rich family proved that they have affiliation to either the Chinese warlords or corrupted members of Chinese Nationalists. My grandparents did not make distinction between Chinese Communists, Chinese Nationalists, and Chinese warlords. They think that all governments in mainland China across time and regions are one homogenous group of repressive authoritarian governments. However, they justify the repression with their claim that China has a severe overpopulation that force the Chinese people to fight over limited living necessities. They claim that democracy and human rights could never existed in China because of the overpopulation problem.

Although my abusive slanderous father condemns Communism, he use the alleged brutal authoritarian tradition of China to justify his corrupted practices as a pastor of several Chinese Christian churches. My father change several Chinese churches until he found a corrupted church that he could use to further his domestic violence, unethical affair with at least one young girl in his “missionary” work, swindling, fraud, slanders, and armed gangster worship. His cult fall apart when I tipped to the pastors of corrupted Chinese Christian church that they are violating their religious doctrine with their dependency on a dangerous psychopath instead of the true God of Christianity. My father did kick me and my mother out of the family for the whistle blowing.

My mother is a brainwashed person who complained about repression but assist corrupted authority in her hypocrisy. She was born in Hong Kong where she faces abuse from my grandparents for her disability. The churches of the British colonizers pretend to be the saviour by allowing the repression and saving her at a time when they can indoctrinate authoritarianisn on her. The Christian churches of the British empire taught blind obedience to repressive authority, willful ignorance to bad actors, and blind faith to corrupt authorities. This authoritarian indoctrination makes her vulnerable to deceits that could be detected through commonsense. A corrupted authority can make blatent contradiction of his claim and moral principles and my mother would still trust them. Despite the harm of the authoritarian indoctrination, she still decide to follow the authoritarian principles and refusal to confess to her hypocrisy, ableist, and bootlicking. The willingness to submit to repression causes her ignorance of commonsense, health problems, psychological problems, extreme mood disorder, inability to recognize ambiguity in her messages, and scapegoating against me for her highly incompetent teaching of life skills.

. I was not expecting that because she’s claiming that her grandfather was a bureaucrat in SU

Her grandfather was probably cynical and corrupt and took advantage of the collapse of the soviet union to emigrate to the usa. One thing needs to be made clear, there is an inherent class dynamic (even in Scandinavian countries) on who is able to communicate effectively in english and who gets to immigrate to america.
