Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp) is joining the fediverse very soon and have to seriously prepare. This isn’t a theoretical scenario anymore.

The photo shows what seems to be a fake conversation with @tonyg with the full @mastodon.social handle visible in two places.
@liaizon @tonyg @fediverse @fediversereport great. Now we’ll have sanctioned child porn on the fediverse. Time to leave.
before you panic, remember your local instance doesn’t have to federate with any of these new corporate instances.
@awl
Why leave? Just block problematic instances.
@fediverse @fediversereport @tonyg @liaizon
@zeitverschreib @awl @fediverse @fediversereport @tonyg @liaizon Has that really worked out? I mean, mastodon is still here… although they instance blocked instances that were around before them.
@sim
Where’s “here?”
@fediverse @fediversereport @tonyg @awl @liaizon
@zeitverschreib @fediverse @fediversereport @tonyg @awl @liaizon Here is the fediverse which uses activitypub to connect between servers/instances.
I’d say that they are likely to remain around making bad decisions which has caused problems for instances using other software. Imagine that this has been a problem with how mastodon treated GNU/Social instances, and that was just one guy as the developer. Imagine how much worse this will get with a large corporation fucking things up and causing overloads because of the scale of it. That’s if they aren’t scared off or want to do their own thing like Gab did.
@awl Threw my pen across the room like JBL used to do. I hate this so goddamn much.
