On October 15th this year, Democratic Governor of Kansas, Laura Kelly, Signed a Proclamation declaring and officially recognizing from here on out, the final full week for the month of October, as Asexual Awareness Week. Kansas is the latest US State after Colorado, Michigan, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington State. The Proclamation was signed citing a growing need for greater awareness, acceptance, legal protections and possibly even reduction in discrimination, for Asexual people.

While I am not myself a Democrat or a Republican, but instead a Socialist, I am proud to see that my orientation, which is commonly seen as “The Invisible Orientation”, is gaining ground in terms of official recognition.

I know that some may scoff at asexuality and related microlabels (maybe not here per se), but as an asexual I do think it’s important to critically reevaluate the ways love is rigidly defined in the context of patriarchy and capitalism.
