I watch a lot of the Hasan Abi industrial complex to keep up on the news. There’s more and more of these channels skip clipping over words like “killed”, “bomb”, “war”, and even “gun”. One of the clips I saw earlier kept the word “missile” too… That’s just a bomb with propellant!! I don’t get why they keep doing this, it’s really annoying. It just feels like yuppy bullshit, I have yet to encounter someone who gets triggered by these words, online or irl.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but a big part of why people have started doing this is because the censorship is done automatically and the video platforms don’t tell their users or creators what the rules are (possibly because they don’t know the rules themselves, because it’s a bunch of weights run through an algorithm). So just like with a society that doesn’t know where rain comes from and gets really superstitious about it, content creators don’t know where the demonetization comes from and they’ve gotten really superstitious about it.
Basically, the real-world version of Newspeak is Algospeak.
